Where to Begin
You'll never know what you find...
If you are lucky enough to begin with a clean slate (meaning just dirt), make use of the opportunity given since all kinds of weeds and critters will start growing in no time at all. I moved in with everything weed-whacked right down to the dirt. Little did I know what was to grow in three short weeks!
Rocks, pieces of tile, parts of bricks, broken chunks of cement... who knows what lurks beneath that 1/4 inch layer of topsoil. Weeds, of course, will grow in anything, especially anything that has been used as filler. This was a brand new house that hadn't been lived since it was purchased two years prior. Vines grew in the house through door cracks, critters were living everywhere inside and out and weed roots ran deep. The neighbors were ticked pick someone finally moved in, especially when they saw me spend endless hours pulling weeds and moving the debris.
While searching for help about planting and everything involved, the very first blog I came across was titled The Joys of Keeping a Garden in Thailand: In short, there aren't any.

I enjoyed reading your blog! I use to work at a greenhouse so I enjoy plants, flowers, and gardening as well. I really like to keep my yard looking colorful and nice as best as I can, but sometimes its very difficult. Great blog post!
ReplyDeleteThanks, it's all a whole lot different than gardening in Michigan!
DeleteI love this idea! I've always been interested in gardening, but didn't really know where to start. I'm looking forward to reading all you have to say about gardening.
ReplyDeleteAlso, having lived in Thailand for a while, I can't imagine how difficult it must be trying to keep plants in such a climate!

Wonderful! Also, you were here for a while? Well then you know they have some of the most wonderful colorscapes, so we'll see if I can manage to make something grow here!
